Bariloche is a place to visit during the whole year. The landscape characterizes for the snow-capped peaks, forests, crystalline water lakes, abundant and beautiful vegetation. Located on Nahuel Huapi Lake, amazes with incredible vieuws.

Just 20 km from Bariloche downtown, is the most important ski center in South America: the Cathedral Hill. During the months from june to september this destination becomes the meeting point for ski lovers.

Bariloche City, has grown a lot with the national and international tourism, It offers tourists an excellent quality of services; ( hotels, restaurants), variety of land and lake excursions; and the possibility to practice all kinds of adventure sports.

From the tops of its hills, there are incredible panoramic views: Otto Hill (excellent view, cable ways-rotating tearoom), Campanario Hill (personally the best view, chairlift or walking, tearoom), a little further away you can find Cathedral Hill (chairlift-tearoom), and Lopez Hill (trekking, canopy).

Runge Hill is close to the civic center. It allows a rapid ascent walking and if you want, you have the option to walk down sliding (ideal for children).

Tronador Hill, owes its name to the roar of its glaciers breaking. It can be visited in a full day excursion or private car (seek trekking tour).

Excursions:

There are many agencies offering excursions in Bariloche downtown. Excursions offered are:

Land excursions:

Small Circuit (3/4 hours): it is a circuit straight through Av. Bustillo bordering Nahuel Huapi Lake to Llao Llao area (Municipal Park Llao Llao and Llao Llao Hotel).

Large Circuit (9/10 hours): it is a 240 km circuit in all. It leads us to know Villa Traful and Villa La Angostura, through Mirror Lake and Correntoso Lake (two of the famous seven lakes)

Seven lakes-San Martin de los Andes (11/12 hours): this circuit has approx 370 km. It takes us along Route 40, from Villa La Angostura to San Martin de los Andes, enjoying incredible views of seven lakes.

El Bolson (9/10hs):  the journey from Bariloche to El Bolsón takes around 260 km. There you can visit an important handicraft fair on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Lake excursions:

Victoria Island and Arrayanes Forest is a highly recommended lake tour, starting the journey by boat from Pañuelo Port (30 minutes from downtown) and after 1hour walk on Nahuel Huapi Lake up to the peninsula Quetrihue where you can find the legendary Arrayanes forest.

Andean Crossing is an offered excursion from Pañuelo Port to reach Chile by lake. Wonderful hiking, incredible scenery and very expensive (from 230 USD p/p), but worthwhile for those who can treat yourself.

Travel Tips for Bariloche:

Selection of excursions: it is recommended to choose at least two hills to visit. Campanario Hill is the favorite among others, Otto Hill is also well known by its giratory tearoom. Choose a land excursion like Seven Lakes or Large Circuit, you must consider that they are full-day excursions. To complete my suggestion, you should take a beautiful lake excursion to Victoria Island and Arrayanes Forest.

Rent a car: it is very advisable to rent a car in Bariloche to explore the lake area more freely and to distribute nights accommodation in different places, such us San Martin de los Andes, Villa Traful and Villa La Angostura. If two or more people are travelling together, it will be cheaper to hire excursions from Bariloche. If you are travelling in winter you should check the state of the roads.

Try to avoid winter in Bariloche because it is only recommended for ski lovers and groups of graduated secondary schools student from Argentina.

For walking lovers, mountain biking, and adventure sports, this destination offers an excellent choice.

Highly recommended nearby destinations:

Villa La Angostura (82 km /1.20 hours from Bariloche), Bayo Ski Center

The famous Seven Lakes Route, is the leg of the route of Route 40 which connects Villa La Angostura and San Martin de los Andes. Seven of them can be traversed in this circuit of 110 km; Nahuel Huapi Lake, Correntoso Lake, Mirror Lake, Falkner Lake, Villarino Lake, Beautiful Lake and Lakar Lake.

San Martin de Los Andes (190 km / 3 hours from Bariloche), Chapelco Ski Center.
